In Chinese culture, Wuxing is a fundamental concept in Chinese philosophy, medicine, and metaphysics. Wuxing represents dynamic, interconnected forces that describe natural cycles, human health, and cosmic balance.
The Five Elements are “Fire”, “Wood”, Earth”, “Water” and “Metal”.
Referred to the picture, showed the principle between the five elements.
Generative Cycle (相生)
Wood → Fire → Earth → Metal → Water → Wood
Control Cycle (相克)
Wood → Earth (roots break soil) → Water (dams block) → Fire (extinguishes) → Metal (cuts) → Wood.
Application in Daily Life
Bazi (八字命理): Analyzes destiny via birth-element interactions of individuals to calculate the strengths and weaknesses of Wuxing.
Feng Shui(風水): Apply the colors or materials of Wuxing to the interior design to harmonize the space. People believe that using the right colors or materials in a house will bring luck to the house owner.
The simple way to solve the problem of weaknesses with an element is by changing the colors of outfits and accessories. For example, a person with a weak Water element (kidney energy) might wear black/blue outfits or crystals (e.g., lapis lazuli, aquamarine).
Colors of elements
People weak with “Fire”, may wear Queen’s Conch to balance.
People weak with “Earth”, may wear Golden Rutilated Quartz to balance.
People weak with “Metal”, may wear Moonstone to balance.
